After 55 years of production at our Summerville Road site, Hart & Clough has moved to a prestigious new production plant at the intersection of the M62 and M606 Motorways. The 23,000 sq.ft. site has allowed the integration of The Amadeus Press, a subsidiary quality book printers, and Woods Print Finishers all under the same roof, giving a far greater production capacity, increased flexibility, plus full design and repro facilities in house. The press room now boasts machines ranging from SRA3 (320 x 450mm) through B2 (520 x 720mm) to B0 (1000 x 1400mm), with two and four colour presses in each size. The pre-press department is equipped with networked Mac and PC’s, along with digital proofers, and repro standard Screen, Umax and Fuji scanners. The Amadeus Press pride themselves on the quality of their black and white halftone scans, often working from priceless originals dating from the 19th Century. Film output is handled in-house through a Screen image setter. There are FTP and e-mail capabilities into the pre-press department. The offices are fully equipped with Cat5e cabling for voice and data. A Windows NT network runs Shuttleworth MIS estimating, costing, job bag production, archiving, and invoicing software. All members of staff have e-mail direct to and from their desktops. The new building, named “Ezra House” after the founder of Hart & Clough five generations ago, was purchased on the 1st November 1999. There followed four months of hard work, planning, making building alterations, scheduling production during the move period and attending to thousands of details, before the first press was moved in March 2000. It is a credit to all the employees that print output did not fall during the weeks when we were actually operating from three different sites. By Easter 2000 we were fully settled in, and looking forward to maximising the potential of our new site. A photographic record was kept of the move in 2000.
